💭 A New Chapter

When I retired from the U.S. Army in 2020, I thought I was closing one chapter and starting another quietly. What I didn’t realize was that God had lined up a whole new book — one written in palm trees, Spanish conversations, and lessons in humility.

I came to the Dominican Republic searching for peace, not paradise. But along the way, I found both. I met my wife, Sheila — a strong, kindhearted Dominican woman who showed me that happiness isn’t about money or medals; it’s about mindset. Together, we built something from the ground up: a life, a family, a YouTube channel, and a message for anyone ready to reset.

🌺 Island Reset Mode

We call our lifestyle “Island Reset Mode” — a mindset of slowing down, choosing peace over pressure, and living with purpose. It’s not always easy. The power goes out. The traffic’s wild. The culture shocks are real. But every day, we’re reminded that life doesn’t have to be perfect to be beautiful.

Whether you’re a retired veteran, a remote worker, or just someone craving a fresh start, the Dominican Republic has a way of teaching you patience, community, and gratitude.

🏡 Building from Scratch

When we started our Airbnb business, we didn’t have investors or a big plan — just faith, hustle, and a vision to help others experience real Dominican life. Sheila became a Superhost, I handled logistics, and little by little, we turned a small apartment into a full family operation.

Now, we share those lessons on our YouTube channel — from budgeting tips and dating advice to local culture and expat realities. We keep it 💯 because nobody warned us how different life would really be after moving here… and now, we’re paying it forward.

Cuando me retiré del Ejército de los Estados Unidos en 2020, pensé que solo estaba cerrando un capítulo para empezar otro. No sabía que Dios tenía preparado un libro completamente nuevo — escrito con palmas, conversaciones en español y lecciones de humildad.

Vine a la República Dominicana buscando paz, no paraíso. Pero en el camino encontré ambos. Conocí a mi esposa, Sheila — una mujer fuerte y de buen corazón que me enseñó que la felicidad no depende del dinero ni de las medallas, sino de la mentalidad. Juntos construimos algo desde cero: una vida, una familia, un canal de YouTube y un mensaje para todos los que buscan un nuevo comienzo.

Llamamos a nuestro estilo de vida “Island Reset Mode”: un recordatorio de bajar el ritmo, elegir la paz sobre la presión y vivir con propósito. No siempre es fácil. Se va la luz, el tráfico es una locura, y el cambio cultural es fuerte. Pero cada día aprendemos que la vida no tiene que ser perfecta para ser hermosa.

🏡 Construyendo Desde Cero

Cuando comenzamos con Airbnb, no teníamos inversionistas ni un gran plan. Solo fe, esfuerzo y una visión para mostrar la verdadera vida dominicana — no solo la de los resorts. Sheila se convirtió en Superanfitriona, yo manejé la logística, y poco a poco, convertimos un pequeño apartamento en una operación familiar completa.

Ahora compartimos esas lecciones en nuestro canal de YouTube — desde consejos de presupuesto y relaciones hasta cultura local y experiencias reales como expatriados.
